The mountain climbing, Blessed-on-skis.

Bl. Pier Giorgio Frassati

Blessed Pier Giorgio Frassati, died July 4, 1928, at the age of 24.

I didn’t know who Blessed Pier Giorgio was until some years ago when the new youth director at our parish demoted the name of our youth center from that of a canonized saint to that of this young blessed. I suppose the idea was that the parish youth would better relate to this mountain climbing, blessed-on-skis, than the more mature (and ever bald) St. Ignatius of Loyola.

Loyola Hall – old and stodgy. Frassati Center – young and refreshing.

A couple of years ago, I listened to the Lighthouse CD titled Blessed Pier Giorgio Frassati – Man of the Beatitudes, which I highly recommend.

Here is a minute and a half video summary of Frassati’s short life.
