Julius Caesar canonized!

St. Lawrence of Brindisi

Born Julius Caesar Russo in 1559, St. Lawrence of Brindisi was given the name Lawrence, when he entered the Capuchin Friars. He was a scholar and an excellent preacher. He held leadership positions in his order and established monasteries in Germany and Austria, furthering the Counter Reformation.

Lawrence was canonized by Pope Leo XIII in 1881 and declared a Doctor of the Church by Pope John XXIII in 1959.
